Still hunting Rabbit in the vege patch 🐇🐇, so this year we are using net in the garden...
Pros : food is growing/ pest control
small windbreak / protect from heavy rain and heavy sun
Cons : can't see vege /difficult to access/ block access to flower to birds and beneficial insects/ not pretty !!

So yes we are working on the rabbit hunting/fencing. ...tbc...😝

The sweet potatoes are out !
In the past we used to leave them in the ground like a pantry and harvest only when needed. Last winter was so much rain that we lost some to rot. With a wet and saturated soil in the lower areas and with the number of ratus ratus around, we decided to harvest the lot... they are now in our living room for up to 10 days curing in our warm house 25°c ish, then we will move the best looking (no holes, cracks or darkspots) to a colder( 12°c ish )and darker room .They should then last up to 6 months 🤞🤞🤞
Note: do not wash potatoes after harvest, leave the soil on for curing and after curing when the skin hardens brush away delicately the remaining soil before storage.

Little guy, we thought we’d lost him and were ready to say goodbye after 33 years of giving his heart to children. Amazing what a good drench can do! After a little snooze he bounced back and seems happier than ever. Thanks Lili for your late night care #ponylove

Jeff has been an amazing friend, mentor and colleague for me for 30 years now and Jill’s warm loving energy is ever present, always turning up to celebrate with us the end of each PDC. What an incredibly awesome response to my previous post! An offer to charge our freezer from an EV! Thanks so much for the inspiration, especially after attending Pete and Pam’s talk today on energy futures #ev #lovethis #energy #stillnopower
And I’m loving it more everyday. The forced slow down, the board games at night, the soft light of candles, the new quiet of the house. The compost toilet.
It’s shown us what resources we have well setup for change and where we are too reliant on power. While all the garden taps are gravity fed (and the water is pumped from the dams with solar), the rain water relies on electric pump. The Esse stove keeps us warm and fed. There’s food in the garden and dried and bottled food in the pantry but I’m worried about the freezer.
Lots to contemplate #poweroutage #composttoilet #storedfood #slowdown @esse1854

Thanks for all of your support, we’re looking forward to two more days in the cafe ( Saturday and Sunday) and 3 more nights in the campground then we’ll close the gate and settle into some down time. Sending love out to everyone that’s been a part of it xxx #winter #downtime #family #friends #animals

While we have picked up cats and foxes we have also got Quendas (bandicoots), and hope to continue to get a greater picture. The kids had their sticks
collected from the trees
behind the house
The trees my dad planted, their great grand dad
planted to create shade for future generations.
Trees that have grown up the laneway we use everyday
to walk and cycle and ponyride and drive
to visit the generations up and down the laneway
and collect the wood that burns now
as we sit around the fire
and watch the sunset while the kids poke marshmallows
on the end of their sticks
and watch them sizzle to little
black gooey
lumps of delight

This is a fantastic course!

This is a fantastic course!! The whole two weeks (classes, breaks and other activities) are very well structured and thought through. The experience of sharing space, time and meals with other like-minded people is wonderful. The course offers a variety of teaching styles (from different teachers) and provides the opportunity to see the implementation of permaculture principles in many different ways (which is very useful and makes it relevant to everyone participating). Fair Harvest is a showcase in itself of the application of everything Jodie and Do believe in, it’s a beautiful example of the permaculture principles at play. I would highly recommend this course to EVERYONE, whether they are interested in their property or not.

Contributing to a better world

Doing a PDC at Fair Harvest has expanded my way of thinking - I'm leaving with practical tools and a deep spiritual connection to direct my course of action for contributing to a better world.

Everyone, 9-99 years old should do this course

Everyone, 9-99 years old should do this course. The blessing of immersing yourself in the knowledge of the teachers is something that I will forever cherish and be grateful for. This has already changed my life and I expect it will never stop changing me. I found a community of love, transparency and joy in a mixed bag of age and backgrounds. Jodie and Do are beautiful souls and share so much… and thank you for all the nourishing food.

Permaculture Design Certificate

I expected to enjoy this course and I expected to learn things, but it turned out to be far more than that. It was two weeks of being immersed in living and breathing permaculture with different people with a common goal.  Permaculture principles are a map for living a fulfilling life and I am grateful to Jodie and Do for facilitating this life changing experience.

Permaculture Design Certificate - May 2016

A fantastic course in a fantastic setting.  Wonderful ordinary people from all walks of life coming together with an open mind wanting to learn about permaculture and ways of integrating more sustainable practices into their lives.  You walk away from this not only with many great ideas, tons of new knowledge but also with some great new friends.  Loved it. Still loving it.  So excited about what’s coming next.

Permaculture Design Certificate - grow our food, recycle and reuse

I wanted to learn about permaculture without really knowing why, so I attended the Intro to Permaculture course and then I knew I needed to know more.  So I signed up for the PDC thinking a bit of it would apply to me - and it has opened up a new world of information, friends and new recipes for cooking plants / fruits I have never heard of before.  The course has helped me understand how important it is for all of us to do our bit, from where we are, with what we have, to grow our food, recycle and reuse our resources, and celebrate the gift of life.

Permaculture Design Certificate - a life changing experience

Thanks to Jodie and Do (and all the other teachers) for giving me the most incredible, life changing experience over the course of the PDC.  There’s no going back now and I can’t wait to start using all the amazing knowledge about permaculture I have gained because of it.  I am so grateful to have had this opportunity.

Permaculture Design Certificate - about the catering...

So yummy! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you had to put into making so many amazing meals.  And also thank you for introducing so many new and wonderful fruits and vegetables. -   Loved the food.  Thank you for making my taste buds sing! Yum! Thank you for cooking some of the yummiest, healthiest food I’ve ever eaten… was so wonderful seeing fresh produce from the garden turned into the amazing food we ate over the PDC.

Courses with Camping - loved the compost shower!

Camping during the Permaculture Design Certificate Lovely campsite, enjoyed the birdlife around us and the awesome designs around everywhere.  Shower worked very well, using it as well as the compost toilet was surprisingly a great experience and very pleasant.  Great ideas I got from that.  I enjoyed that there were no restrictions (other than private areas) as where we were allowed to go on the property. Was great wandering around and getting inspired. Loved the compost shower! Loved the venue - a true example of community space for all.

A complete, holistic PDC

Fair harvest Permaculture provided me with a complete, holistic PDC that balanced on-site practical experiences with training in permiculture principles.  Jodie and everyone at Fair Harvest made me feel very welcome and supported.  I am so happy to have stayed at Fair Harvest and am grateful for the friendships that have come out of our time together.  I recommend attending Fair Harvest courses and look forwards to further involvement with Jodie and the crew.

I wouldn't hesitate

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this PDC course to anyone.  The introduction was thorough and inspiring, and the PDC had such a great range of teachers that have a really broad range of experience, which gave a lot to us as students with out range of permaculture experience.  I'd been meaning to get around to doing a PDC for about 10 years and it was well worth the wait!

Scoutt

Gave me hundreds of ideas

It's a great validation about things I'd intuited about what's right for our land and is pretty spot on.  But even better, the course gave me hundreds more ideas to build on when thinking out a sustainable bigger plan.  Thanks Jodie and Do.
