Pretty special to have a few hours with the ever amazing ( and always entertaining) PB. His knowledge about soil health is deep and comprehensive and his methods towards remediation are hands on and obtainable. PB has been teaching on our PDC’s since 2012 has hasn’t stopped learning more and helping students well beyond their time here.
Come and learn from some of the best! Places still available for our January live in 2 week ( fully catered) course!

Whether you own or rent or you’re thinking of buying… you may be wondering how to best design and manage your property. Have you recently bought land or thinking of buying? Do you want food gardens, areas of natural bushland, living spaces, kid zones, animals, community??? Are you concerned about fire, weeds and management?
For every PDC (2 week live in permaculture course) we run, we find someone with a new block and ask all the hard questions about their wants, needs, commitments and realities. We assess the site, the soils, the water, weeds and trees and we work hard to create design options that are considered and realistic. This is our January 2025 block and we’re super excited to be working with the new owners who are committed to caring for it and creating a space for their future. There’s still a couple of spots available on our January course so if you feel like starting your new year with a totally inspiring and immersive couple of weeks get in touch ASAP for details ( course dates Jan 12-26 all camping and meals provided). Next course in September.
Don’t worry if you live in smaller spaces - so many of the concepts we explore apply just as much in suburban living….#pdc #permaculture #january #lastminute
Pretty blessed to have these couple of legends giving all their time and energy to our permaculture students. They don’t just teach their classes, they are here 24 /7 sharing, supporting, encouraging and inspiring the crew. They’re also pretty happy to share some home brew and a yarn. Thanks Jeff Nugent and Rod Hughes you guys are the best.

Yesterday I catered for a small private birthday here at Fair Harvest. It was so nice organizing exactly what the client wanted and feeling that I got it just right for the occasion. Lots of happy peeps. Relaxed vibe, good friends, simple food. We’re not really into the big parties, weddings, noise but very happy to do your small celebrations x #catering #venuehire #margaretriver #margaretriverregion
Very excited to start dreaming up a menu for Sunday around our amazing harvest. Just saw these pics from last open day and it made me think of the changing seasons and the produce that is at once abundant ( omg so much asparagus!) then suddenly gone and we have to wait until next time it comes around. Well I’ve got a week and the garden is pumping…….here we go!

Wow wow wow! I could never have believed when we planted in May that we would be standing in their shade in February. The power of trees! Paraserianthes lophantha, Cape Leeuwin Wattle, Albizia, whatever you want to call it it’s an awesome tree and we’re already harvesting and propagating seeds from this lot for the next planting!!

Freezing cucumber for juicing (or gazpacho) I’ve been so loving my cucumber ( and beetroot) juice lately I just don’t want it to stop! Freezing them for later is great, just put the slices on a tray in the freezer for a few hours before transferring to containers, this way they won’t freeze into a big solid blob #freshfood #juicing #healthnut #saveitforlater

Wetland Restoration Course at in the Mokidup catchment Fair Harvest
A few words from one of our teachers Rod Hughes

I love this course so much!
We know we live in a beautiful environment but the seasonal creeks and wetlands across SW Western Australia have been hit hard by past land-use.
This course gives us the tools to read the land and stream patterns, learn about creek-line plants and to get our hands in the soil.
To me this course is an important way of connecting permaculture back to its origins and us to our roles as Earth Restorers.

One of the most exciting projects in town. The Margaret River Community Nursery. Massive congratulations to all the hard working volunteers that have got this one off the ground. 12 000 plants ready to go in the ground this year and around 1000 of them are destined to come here for our Mokidup Wetland Restoration ! Woohoo.
Love the community energy , the caring for country and the generosity of people ( especially this man who I’m sure is rarely seen on socials but who has brought his huge wealth of knowledge to the project) thanks Jeremy . What a perfect afternoon for the official opening.

It was International Women’s Day yesterday and in honoring our own needs we didn’t organize anything on the farm. It’s been a big time and walking past this special corner we honor some very special women who are no longer with us. The beautiful ephemeral art created in the memory of Andrea and the communal painting created to celebrate the life of Cynda and her family.
May all our women friends honor themselves, listen to their needs and rest a little ,knowing that they are held and loved.
Sending oodles of love your way and looking forward to gathering again, singing, creating art and telling stories xx @elaineclochertylandart @kylliedeltondo @rebeccacoolart @thewildingstories @saribennett_poetry @thenomadicsmob @mrorganicfarmer @taniadavey.art @sharna_rene @isabellegreenfield @gatheredorganics @megslikeeggs and many many more xxx #iwd #loveyourfriends #women #rest #musicandart
We are very lucky to have Simon Cherriman as joining us again for the Mokidup Wetland Restoration Course in May, his understanding, love and passion for the wildlife we share our planet with is immense, and his way of sharing it is passionate and contagious.
Here’s a few words from Simon about our project

« The revegetation and landcare works being carried out at Fair Harvest along their local waterway (Mokidup Bilya / Ellens Brook) not only set a very high standard in terms of methods of practice, but they are also inspiring for many like-minded individuals wishing to ‘Care for Country’ in their own area. The care for the ‘living stream’ shown during removal of invasive plant species and bank stabilisation works is obvious as one walks along it; the new seedlings of local, native species are thriving in their ‘rightful’ home again! Listening to the song of Golden Whistlers, Red-winged Fairywrens and Silvereyes ‘dripping’ from the foliage of adjoining remnant vegetation stands gives one a glimpse of what the whole area will feel like in the not-too-distant future.

The Fair Harvest team have also capitalised on the opportunity to restore habitat for hollow-dependent species that will utilise (and in many cases, rely upon) such wildlife corridors (nature’s ‘public transport systems’). Installing nest-boxes for a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles helps to restore ecosystem function by providing the habitat these creatures need to colonise new habitats. This is complimentary to the work our team at The Re-Cyc-Ology Project undertakes in many parts of south-western Australia, particularly on private property where landowners can feel empowered to become better custodians. »

Dropping some apples off to the grandkids before yoga my daughter snapped this pic. I am grateful every day for this beautiful life
We are excited to have Simon yet again to explore the  bushland and Mokidup Creek restoration project.

The day will include

A morning presentation-

Discussing the wildlife species one can expect in a riparian habitat

and habitat creation for such creatures with a focus on nest-boxes.

Then in the afternoon-

We will go for a wildlife walk’ to observe various birds, calls, frogs, mammals tracks/scats and understand a little more about who we are sharing the bushland with.

Simon will then install two different nest boxes and pass on valuable information about how to do this tho get maximum chance of wildlife habitation.

Simon will also have his amazing book “Hollowed Out” for sale.

This is a fantastic course!

This is a fantastic course!! The whole two weeks (classes, breaks and other activities) are very well structured and thought through. The experience of sharing space, time and meals with other like-minded people is wonderful. The course offers a variety of teaching styles (from different teachers) and provides the opportunity to see the implementation of permaculture principles in many different ways (which is very useful and makes it relevant to everyone participating). Fair Harvest is a showcase in itself of the application of everything Jodie and Do believe in, it’s a beautiful example of the permaculture principles at play. I would highly recommend this course to EVERYONE, whether they are interested in their property or not.

Contributing to a better world

Everyone, 9-99 years old should do this course

Everyone, 9-99 years old should do this course. The blessing of immersing yourself in the knowledge of the teachers is something that I will forever cherish and be grateful for. This has already changed my life and I expect it will never stop changing me. I found a community of love, transparency and joy in a mixed bag of age and backgrounds. Jodie and Do are beautiful souls and share so much… and thank you for all the nourishing food.

Permaculture Design Certificate

I expected to enjoy this course and I expected to learn things, but it turned out to be far more than that. It was two weeks of being immersed in living and breathing permaculture with different people with a common goal.  Permaculture principles are a map for living a fulfilling life and I am grateful to Jodie and Do for facilitating this life changing experience.

Permaculture Design Certificate - May 2016

A fantastic course in a fantastic setting.  Wonderful ordinary people from all walks of life coming together with an open mind wanting to learn about permaculture and ways of integrating more sustainable practices into their lives.  You walk away from this not only with many great ideas, tons of new knowledge but also with some great new friends.  Loved it. Still loving it.  So excited about what’s coming next.

Permaculture Design Certificate - grow our food, recycle and reuse

I wanted to learn about permaculture without really knowing why, so I attended the Intro to Permaculture course and then I knew I needed to know more.  So I signed up for the PDC thinking a bit of it would apply to me - and it has opened up a new world of information, friends and new recipes for cooking plants / fruits I have never heard of before.  The course has helped me understand how important it is for all of us to do our bit, from where we are, with what we have, to grow our food, recycle and reuse our resources, and celebrate the gift of life.

Permaculture Design Certificate - a life changing experience

Permaculture Design Certificate - about the catering...

So yummy! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you had to put into making so many amazing meals.  And also thank you for introducing so many new and wonderful fruits and vegetables. -   Loved the food.  Thank you for making my taste buds sing! Yum! Thank you for cooking some of the yummiest, healthiest food I’ve ever eaten… was so wonderful seeing fresh produce from the garden turned into the amazing food we ate over the PDC.

Courses with Camping - loved the compost shower!

Camping during the Permaculture Design Certificate Lovely campsite, enjoyed the birdlife around us and the awesome designs around everywhere.  Shower worked very well, using it as well as the compost toilet was surprisingly a great experience and very pleasant.  Great ideas I got from that.  I enjoyed that there were no restrictions (other than private areas) as where we were allowed to go on the property. Was great wandering around and getting inspired. Loved the compost shower! Loved the venue - a true example of community space for all.

I wouldn't hesitate

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this PDC course to anyone.  The introduction was thorough and inspiring, and the PDC had such a great range of teachers that have a really broad range of experience, which gave a lot to us as students with out range of permaculture experience.  I'd been meaning to get around to doing a PDC for about 10 years and it was well worth the wait!

Scoutt

Gave me hundreds of ideas

It's a great validation about things I'd intuited about what's right for our land and is pretty spot on.  But even better, the course gave me hundreds more ideas to build on when thinking out a sustainable bigger plan.  Thanks Jodie and Do.
